Library.

For research, inspiration and enjoyment.

The Mission of the UAS Library is to encourage children to be enthusiastic readers, critical thinkers, skillful researchers and to provide a peaceful environment for our students. The library staff is dedicated to promoting lifelong literacy and instilling a love of reading in our students as well in both the elementary and the secondary libraries. The UAS Libraries host over 25,000 books and digital resources in seven languages across two libraries. There is a wide variety of genres available in both libraries for every student’s interest, reading level and curiosity. We also organize book fairs, author visits, field trips, and participate in events and competitions with the Emirates Festival of Literature.

The Elementary Library

Elementary students visit the library weekly. In Early Childhood (PreK & KG1) students can check out one book at a time; grades KG2 through Grade 5 are encouraged to borrow two books, plus an Arabic book. Students are also taught various library and reading-related skills such as accessing the school online library catalog, understanding the different genres, research strategies, digital citizenship, and library information skills which are interwoven with the PYP Unit of Inquiry.

The Elementary Library is open daily from 7:30 am until 3:35 pm (on Fridays we close at 11.45 pm).

Library online catalog can be accessed on our Library Website

We welcome collection suggestions from our community. For Elementary suggestions, please access the Elementary Wishlist Request form here.

The Secondary Library

The Secondary Library comprises the collections of both the Middle School and the High School. The Secondary Library aims to meet the educational needs of the middle and high school communities through sessions on note taking, source evaluation, academic honesty and research skills, as well as to promote reading for enjoyment. In addition, the MS/HS Library employs a wide range of academic resources and instructional methods to foster critical thinking, mindfulness, and the use of ideas and information which support discovery and understanding of our world. We are continuing to develop our collection to support both IB DP and AP courses offered at UAS.

Grades 6 to Grade 10 can borrow three books at a time; Grades 11 and 12 can borrow up to five books at a time. Secondary students must present their school ID cards at checkout time.

The Secondary Library maintains and provides physical access to a wide range of materials in various formats to:

  • Enrich the collection through continual collaboration with faculty.
  • Employ technologies that support the UAS community.
  • Teach research skills and information literacy, including UAS subscription databases.

The Secondary Library is open daily from 7:30 am until 3:35 pm (on Fridays we close at 11.45 pm).
